My name is Mandy Kennett and I am the Spanish teacher the Owasso a 8th grade Center I attended the University of Tulsa and I have my Bachelors of Science in Speech Pathology Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and I have my master's degree in teaching English as a second language that's actually the path that I thought I was going to go down I wanted to be an ELL teacher and then my first opportunity to work in Owasso was actually with a Spanish teacher position and I ended up loving it I fell in love with teaching Spanish I think there are a lot of benefits to learning Spanish in this part of United States there is a chance that they are actually going to get to use outside of the classroom that's actually one of my favorite things is we'll come back and tell me you know I heard this I I heard people talking and I understood these words getting to talk to their neighbors that speak Spanish and I think Spanish is it's really beneficial it's also good for their brains to learn you can actually learn more about your own language and why you why do we do this in English because they do this in Spanish will you can make those comparisons between are at their native language which is in most cases is English to Spanish Miss Kannett does a phenomenal job in the classroom her passion and energy for teaching Spanish is second to none she does a great job and bringing cultural experiences into the classroom with various activities throughout the year as well as some field trips we appreciate everything that Miss Kennett it brings to the 8th Grade Center we are all better here at the 8th Grade Center because of Mrs. Kennett I feel like making connections with students is one of the most important things about teaching sometimes I have to remind myself I'm just seeing one little piece of who they actually are I like to go to their events and see them they can really sing or they can play an instrument or they can play a sport and sometimes they're able to shine in different ways but we don't always see in the classroom I think sometimes getting to know their their interest their likes and forming a relationship with them is even more important than the content and although I do love Spanish I think that seeing them as a person is is the most important thing it's really an honor for me to be chosen I work in a school with amazing teachers and it is truly an honor I'm Mandy Kennett it and I'm an Owasso Ram!
